Heart Rate Training Copertina flessibile – 1 marzo 2011
If you’re serious about your sport, you’re serious about conditioning. Now, with one small device, you can apply the latest technology, science, and research to take the guesswork out of training, monitor progress, and see results. Heart RateTraining will show you how!
From functions, features, and operational advice for your device to interpreting and applying the results, Heart RateTraining is a step-by-step guide to optimizing performance. You’ll learn how, when, and why monitors can, and should, be incorporated into your workouts, training, and conditioning program to produce maximum results.
In Heart Rate Training, authors Roy Benson and Declan Connolly show you how to determine deficiencies in training and performance, create targeted programs to increase endurance, raise lactate threshold, increase speed and power, and monitor your recovery between workouts. And the sample programs allow you to manipulate the training components to design a long-term training plan across eight endurance sports: walking, running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, rowing, cross-country skiing, and team sports.
When you’re ready to take training and performance to the next level, turn to Heart Rate Training and achieve your personal best.

5,0 su 5 stelle Gave me tons of clarity and understanding
I am a average runner who is looking to get into doing some longer distances on the trails. I have been implementing what this books discusses as the concepts really made sense the way they were explained. I put blind faith into it as the slow paces to start seemed way too slow, to be doing anything, but I am already starting to break personal bests after only 6 weeks. I was training way too fast for my level. The book is a little complex at times, but the message is very consistent so it is easy to pick up. The reasons why I have bonked in the past, experienced over training issues and more have been solved by designing my training based off my heart rate. This book will work for the couch potato as well as an olympian. Thank you for writing it!

5,0 su 5 stelle This is an exellent introduction to Heart Monitor use
I have been looking for a book to give me some information on using a Heart Rate Monitor.
By doing a search on Amazon in the UK, I found no-one had yet reviewed it, so I checked the American website and the review comments there were favourable. I then decided to take the plunge and buy it.
Since getting it, I have since been pleased with it. The book is in reasonably understandable form to exercise numbskulls such as me.
It starts with what a monitor is for, what problems you may have from it (such as incorrect readings due to electrical interference) and then how to use it in a variety of exercise situations.
Heart Monitors can benefit in sports where you exercise aerobically (i.e. so you have enough air in your lungs to talk!) and not getting heavily out of breath. Sports such as football (soccer in the book) are not really applicable, as there is a lot of sprinting involved, and your monitor would be always trying to catch up with your body. Since I run a variety of distances - largest being Half Marathons - a Heart Rate Monitor is of value to me.
I wanted a book which would give me some scientific basis for training to improve my overall performance. A Heart Rate Monitor gives you feedback on what your body is doing so you can apply some science !
The importance of determining your maximum heart rate, and then setting training zones to get the best out of yourself, is stressed. There is no gain, without pain, is the essential message of this book if you want to be an athelete. If you are happy jogging just to keep fit, without breaking world records, then this book is also for you.
There are good sections on training schedules for Rowing, Swimming, Cross Country Skiing as well as Walking and Running. The Running chapter includes a training plan for 5km , 10km,, Half and Full marathons. It also has a plan for people who do not want to race, but want to keep fit and trim.
I feel that this book has helped me understand how a Heart Monitor will help me in setting a training schedule for my particular sport. I would recommend it.

5,0 su 5 stelle Every runner should read this!
I think I have read every book about training there is, and this is the best as far as using heart rate to base your workouts on. It is a well written book, with straigth foward practical advice, but presented with humor. I have been really trying to obey his guidelines the past few months, and have changed my training in ways that I wouldn't have without this book. I still make the mistakes of going too hard on my easy days, and probably too hard on my interval days, but at least I now have a very clear idea of what I am supposed to do and why. This is an easy to read book that explains much of the science behind the main workouts that most runners do, and is valuable knowledge. There is probably a lot of pages that won't be read by everyone, since he details training programs for several sports, but there isn't a lot of filler stuff. The science is described in enough detail that you understand what you have to, but not so much that you fall asleep. Some heart rate training books seem sort of wimpy, but this book doesn't ease up on you, and is actually a good pep talk for going out and running hard. Now I am always thinking of his advise to not neglect the "bone crushers". I think it is a must read for any athlete of any level. I wish this book had been written years ago when heart rate monitors were just coming out.
