Winning Running: Successful 800m & 1500m Racing and Training Copertina flessibile – 29 aprile 1996

4,6 su 5 stelle 72 voti

Sustained success over years at the top of international competition does not come easily in track athletics, and some distances in particular demand higher commitment and total body fitness of the athlete. This is just one of the many aspects assessed in this informative and important new book by Peter Coe, the coach behind his son's success in nine World Records and three World Bests. The 800 and 1500m events are analyzed in detail to provide an understanding of what is required to race and win. All vital components of event training are included from fitness testing, mental conditioning, and multi-pace training to post-event analysis. For anyone involved in coaching middle distance running, this book will help separate the winners from the losers and develop the conditions for successful running.

Old book, not current by today's standards. Rather superficial and generalist. Who can it be useful for? It is true that there are no specialist books on the subject but overall this will be of little use if you are a coach.

This book is excellent and I strongly recommend it. I have been running the 800m for almost 30 years and my own experience together with the teaching from my coach fully agree with Peter Coe's theories. Of course there are modern topics not covered by the book, like training with hurdles once a week, but for me these are minor issues.

The important things are mental conditioning, strength and multipace training, style and efficiency, race tactics, etc, which are highly emphasized by Peter Coe. And, of course, the uselessness of high mileage as training basis.

Quite useful book either for beginners or for experienced runners who want to jump to 800 ml or 1500 ml, no matter if the desired level is amateur or pro.
You can either have a longer distance background or shorter, as it is my case, coming from the 400 ml.
